Project 1998 Adventure is a personal, fan-based (no-expansion) Everquest emulator server that is only meant to simulate the original release, (without implying accuracy), as it was on March 16th of 1999, before any further content or expansions were added. It totally excludes anything added after that date.
Although this server will welcome a modern (RoF2) client, many things are being done to simulate that era, (to the best of our ability and resources). Only the (69) zones that existed on it's original release date will be available. There will be the odd things, we have no control over, but we'll get as close to the experience as we can. Our focus is time travel, not total accuracy.
There will be no modern perks or QoL added to the game mechanics. Many things, that were not available back then, when Everquest was initially launched, will not be available now, (there was no Discord, Wiki or Allaclone). This website will have much of the basics a player needs and forums will be in place for players to collaborate their knowledge.
A big part of that game was the challenging mystery that came with logging on to a new gaming world, not knowing what you've got yourself into. Even now, many people will tell you how much they hated the grind, but they kept on playing it anyway, so they really must of loved the game back then.
There has been countless number of hours, weeks and months gone in to this creation, but it will remain in that original era, without expansions ever being added. There have been many classic emulated servers, but most have never stuck to that original March 16th, 1999 release date, without eventually moving on, adding further content, past that release date. I will respectfully give credit to the (original) FV server on EQEmu for maintaining it's "no expansions added" content, but the original FV on live didn't exist in March, 1999.
Several other projects on EQEmu have done some great work in an "era-locked" server. TakP, Quarm, P99, just to mention a few. There really is a variety out there for EQ players to indulge in.
Project 1998 Adventure really is all about keeping a restriction on that original release date, without compromise. It's not created to compete with other game servers. The server is built to play on, but it doesn't come with a population, nor will the game mechanics be altered to compensate for that. This is a hobby for me that cost less than $100 per month to lease a solid, dedicated server (not a VPS), and I don't mind sharing my entertainment with you. This server will never be monetized or need anyone's money, or donations. When it comes to my own enjoyment, I pay my own way. But to be perfectly honest, I'm not going to care whether players log on to the server or not, because the whole project has always been for my own enjoyment. But you're welcome to play on it too. :)

REMOVE THE "2" from the address.
This trailer was obviously done with poor graphics back then, but if you haven't seen the final promo release, you can find it easily on youtube.
The "1998" in our server name was inspired by this video.
